THE PTO IS A GREAT ORGANIZATION
AND COMPLETELY VOLUNTEER BASED
ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Below are examples of the types of activities and volunteer opportunities.
- Fundraising: The PTO organizes several fundraisers with all proceeds going to support school activities. This is an excellent opportunity for you to get involved.
- Teacher Appreciation Activities: Because our teachers are so wonderful and take great pride in their work with our children, we like to show our appreciation for their efforts. In the fall, during American Education week, we ask volunteers to send in luncheon items for the teachers. During Parent/Teacher conferences in November we sponsor a dinner for the teachers. The teachers are at school all day and into the evening meeting with us. The dinner helps them get through the evening while they are away from their own families. Additionally, during Teacher Appreciation in the Spring, we sponsor a breakfast for the teachers. We ask for volunteers to send in food items to share with the teachers on one of the days.
- Book Fairs: The New Oxford Elementary Library hosts book fairs to allow students the opportunity to purchase books and support the school through Scholastic. The students can participate during school hours or you may bring your student during evening hours. PTO volunteers help staff the book fair.
- Door Decorating: During the holiday season, the doors in the building are decorated to create a festive atmosphere for the school. If you are interested in volunteering to decorate a door, watch for information to come home with your child. A planning meeting is held each October where parents who volunteer can meet the other volunteers and share ideas. As a volunteer you create and supply the decorations. This activity is very special to all the students and teachers.
- Santa Shop: This activity gives the students an opportunity to purchase items for immediate family members for Christmas. Santa Shop takes place the 2nd week of December. Envelopes are sent home with children a few days prior to their designated day. There are many items to choose from and everything is $1. After the students make their purchases, they get to pick one small prize for themselves. They are also supplied wrapping paper for their items. PTO volunteers help to set up the Santa Shop, assist students with purchases when the Shop is open and help tear down the Santa Shop after it closes.
- Magic Elm Skating Parties: PTO partners with Magic Elm and hosts 3 skating parties throughout the year. Typically held on Thursday evenings from 6 pm – 8 pm, New Oxford Elementary students have fun skating with friends.
- School Store: The students LOVE going to the school store! A schedule is established each year and students in grades 1-3 generally visit the store monthly. There are many items for your child to choose from. This is a great opportunity for your child to gain independence and for you to volunteer to work the school store.
- Box Tops for Education: "BOX TOPS ARE NOW DIGITAL! Just download the app, pick the school you want your Box Top funds to go to, scan your receipt and the money instantly goes into the NOE account! You will immediately see the amount you just earned for your school. They will continue to accept the clipped copies as well until they are all phased out. So please use this easy app but also keep clipping any you see and send them in!" (See http://www.boxtops4education.com for a complete listing of participating products and vendors.)
- Volunteering: The PTO periodically sends notices home with students requesting volunteers for these and other events. We encourage you to watch for these notices and volunteer when you can.
